Effects of Aqua - Acupuncture of Radix SaIivae Miltriorrhizae Water Extract on Blood Pressure in Hypertensive Rats

Abstract

|
We investigated the effects on spontaneouly hypertensive rats systolic blood pressure of water extract of Radix Saliuae Miltriorrhizae (WE-RSM) delivered by aqua-acupuncture (AA; 100 ㎕/day for 2 week) at the meridian points BL_(15) or BL_(23). Plasma renin activity, and levels of aldosterone, atrial natriuretic peptide and systolic blood pressure (ANP) in spontaneously hypertensive rats (~180 g) were measured.
In spontaneously hypertensive rats, systolic blood pressure decreased significantly following AA at either BL_(15) or BL_(23), while plasma ANP level also decreased following AA only at BL_(15).
These data suggest that AA of WE-RSM may also lead to a lowering of blood pressure via ANP-related mechanisms in hypertensive rats.
